Spandex has high elongation (500% to 700%), low elastic modulus (200% elongation, 0.04 to 0.12 g / D) and high resilience (200% elongation, 95% to 99%). In addition to higher strength, other physical and mechanical properties are very similar to natural latex fibers. It is more resistant to chemical degradation than latex yarn, and has moderate thermal stability. The softening temperature is above 200 c. Most dyes and finishing agents for synthetic fibers and natural fibers are also suitable for dyeing and finishing spandex. Elastane is resistant to sweat, seawater and various dry cleaners and most sunscreen. Long term exposure to sunlight or bleaching agents will also fade, but the degree of fading varies with the type of spandex.

The spandex fiber has such a high elasticity because its polymer chain is composed of a low melting point, an amorphous "soft" segment, and a high melting point and a "hard" chain embedded in it. A certain network structure is formed between the molecular chains of the flexible chain. Because of the small interaction force between the molecular chains, the chain can be free to stretch and cause large elongation. The molecular chains of rigid segments are relatively large.And the molecular chains are not stretched unlimitless, resulting in high resilience. Cross-section of radon filament is mostly dog bone shaped, and some filament is smooth or jagged. Breaking strength is the lowest in all textile fibers. Only 0.44 to 0.88CN/dtex (the strength of polyether type is higher than that of polyester). Moisture absorption range is small, generally 0.3-1.2% (hygroscopic rate is slightly higher than that of monofilament). The heat resistance varies with different varieties. Most fibers are stored for a short time in the range of 90~150 degrees C, the fiber will not be damaged, the safety ironing temperature is below 150 C.Temperature can be heated and washed. It has better dyeing performance and dyed color. It has strong affinity to fiber and can adapt to most varieties of dyestuffs. It has good chemical resistance and is resistant to most acid base, chemical agent, organic solvent, dry cleaning agent and bleaching agent.As well as sun and wind and snow, but it is not resistant to oxide, easy to make fiber yellow and strong. The force is reduced.

Spandex fabric is also known as lycra fabric, one synthetic fiber features in high tensile strength and breaking elongation (above 400%, or 500%～700% ), low modulus (200% elongation，0.04～0.12 grams per denier), and excellent elastic recovery(200% elongation，95%～99%).

Elastic fiber performs better in chemical degradation and strength compared with rubber thread, and has medium heat stability, softening temperature above 200℃.
